WORLD VAULTING CHALLENGE

21.2.2006

For the FEI Vaulting Committee and for all people involved in the vaulting are the main goals to increase the standard of the vaulting sport worldwide and to spread this sport all over the world. This was a clear statement made at the meeting of over 300 people in Bad Boll, Germany in February 2006.

There are several projects discussed, but one of the most important projects is the

FEI World Vaulting Challenge (WVC).

The Challenge is the link between the national competitions and the CVIs and will expand horse-riding and vaulting skills throughout the world. By increasing the motivation to participate at vaulting competitions we will increase the interest in the education of horses, longeurs and vaulters.

This is corresponding with the goals in the Strategic Plan of the FEI

*to increase the competitive activity under FEI rules,
*to spread out participation worldwide,
*to increase the participation of the youth,
*to raise the quality of organisation,
*to raise the standard of performance.

If we have a look at the FEI World Dressage Challenge we see how important the decision in 1982 to create the WDC was, in the last 20 years this discipline grew in the non-European countries enormous.

With the Vaulting Rules 2005 we have the possibility to create the Vaulting Challenge with lower level competitions and give the new countries the possibility to make their education step by step.

After discussion we decided to run the WVC in three classes without an age limit:

*Individual 1*;
*Team 1*;
*Pas de Deux 1*.

These three classes give the possibility for the vaulters and coaches to compete in the competitions as a team, Pas de Deux and/or Individual. These three steps give the opportunity for a good education and to start at CVIs or Championships in the future.

In the frame of the WVC will be clinics for judges, vaulters and longeurs to increase the quality of the participants and the vaulting sport in these countries.

The countries are very interested in this project and we think that after three years the WVC will run in 6 groups with about 25 countries. The representatives of the Latin-American countries (ARG, BRA, COL, ECU) strongly recommends to start the WVC on a trial basis already 2006 and they are prepared to make all necessary arrangements in due time.

We are aware that this project is not in the FEI budget for 2006, but we believe that the FEI should strike the iron while it is hot. The costs for the WVC in only one region are not very high.

The WVC will be judges by two FEI Judges. According to the small number of FEI Vaulting Judges it is nearly impossible that two judges will spend a whole month for travelling within one region. Therefore it was decided if necessary to cut this time in two pieces, but this decision should be taken case by case and nobody within the vaulting community will have a problem with the ranking of a region, if it is done in this manner.

For the Organisation of the WVC a working group consisting of a chairman and one member of each region will be build. If the FEI Secretariat due to its other work cannot deal with the WVC ranking etc. this can be done by the chairman of the working group or the IVC.
